Facility Access
The Sallie Tiernan Field House was primarily built for student use, but it also serves as host to many members of the Claremont Consortium and 麻豆区 community. 麻豆区 students, faculty, and staff have year-round access to the Tiernan Field House. Membership privileges are also extended to various members of the consortium as defined below.
The Tiernan Field House and Scripps pool is open to members of the Claremont Consortia with varying levels of membership privileges. Students, faculty and staff from Claremont McKenna, Harvey Mudd, Scripps, and TCCS have access to the facility with no additional fees during the academic year. Guests from the other member schools have options of purchasing day passes or memberships. Day passes and memberships grant patrons access to the building and pool.
Please note that for membership purposes, the academic year begins on the first day that the residence halls are open to returning students and concludes when the residence halls close in May. Academic-year and summer memberships are available to certain constituents.
An annual membership includes the academic year plus summer. Group fitness (FitScripps) passes are also available for purchase per semester. Access to wellness programming and special events vary per event.
Memberships
Memberships are available for Scripps Alumnae, Claremont Graduate University, Keck Graduate Institute, Pomona, and Pitzer students, faculty and staff to purchase at the facility.
Scripps Only Hours
During the academic year, daily from 3-7pm Tiernan hosts 鈥淪cripps Only Hours鈥 in the facility to ensure Scripps students, faculty and staff have access to the facility during peak times. Other than Scripps students, faculty and staff, access is limited to one of their guests.
Scripps Undergraduate Hours at the Pool
Friday-Sunday during the academic year, from 12-2pm Tiernan hosts Scripps Undergraduate Hours at the pool. We ask that others respect this time for Scripps undergraduate use and plan your workouts accordingly.
Household Members
Scripps, Claremont Mckenna, Harvey Mudd students, faculty and staff may sign-up for a household membership free of charge. This permits access to the facility for related people living under the same household (address) as the affiliated member. During Scripps Only Hours in the facility, we allow Scripps household members access when accompanied by their Scripps student, faculty or staff member. We ask that other household members use off-peak hours before 3pm daily, or after 7pm.
Purchasing a Membership
Memberships and day passes may be purchased at the Tiernan Field House. The following forms of payment are accepted: cash, check, Claremont cash, and credit (in-person), fees apply.
Membership Notes
Membership permits users to the use of Tiernan Field House and Scripps pool. Memberships are not transferable, refundable, or prorated. The College reserves the right to exclude, either temporarily or permanently, any user who fails to comport her/himself in an appropriate manner and/or comply with the requests of the staff or college officials. The College reserves the right to adjust or change policies, procedures, and/or fees at any time.
Day Pass
Claremont Graduate University, Keck Graduate Institute, Pomona, Pitzer students, faculty and staff may purchase a day pass after presenting a valid identification card.
Guests
Scripps, Claremont Mckenna, Harvey Mudd students, faculty and staff may bring a guest with a guest fee, ranging from free to $10 per visit.
- Scripps students, faculty and staff receive: 1st guest free, $5 for each guest thereafter.
- Claremont Mckenna, Harvey Mudd students, faculty and staff receive: 1 guest per day at $10.
We ask that only guest is brought during Scripps Only Hours in the facility (3-7pm daily), and no guests during the Scripps Undergraduate Hours at the pool Friday-Sunday from 12-2pm.
Dress Code
- Per health and safety standards, to utilize fitness classes, cardiovascular or weight room, patrons should wear close-toed shoes, a t-shirt for any mat usage/ equipment with a back.
- For Scripps pool usage appropriate swimwear is required. Patrons are encouraged to dress according to their gender identities.* Bottoms are required. Sheer, mesh, see-through, jean-material, soiled or dirty clothing is prohibited. *Patrons who identify as female are required to wear swimwear that covers their chest.
- A clean white t-shirt and/or clean aqua socks may be worn in the pool.
- Street shoes are restricted from the pool deck areas.
- Infants and children should be potty-trained or wear non-leaking swim diapers.
Member Rights and Responsibilities

As a valued member of the Scripps community, you have the responsibility to do the following:
- Abide by all laws, policies, and regulations established by the Tiernan Field House
- Cooperate with all TFH staff members
- Treat members and TFH staff with respect
- Respect all reasonable requests of members
- Be an active member and communicate your needs to the TFH staff
- Take responsibility for personal safety, community safety, and security
- Recognize that the furnishings at Tiernan Field House are shared, therefore abuse of those areas violates the rights of all members
- Identify yourself as needing accommodation in a timely fashion if you are an individual with a disability choosing to participate in our programs and activities
