Âé¶¹Çø Academy Celebrates 15 Years, Thanks Donors

Âé¶¹Çø Academy (SCA), a college access program for high school students who are the first in their families to attend college, celebrated its 15th year at Âé¶¹Çø on June 17. This year’s 50 SCA scholars enjoyed the milestone anniversary event and learned about the experiences and perspectives of former program participants, staff, and faculty who came to campus to celebrate. During the dinner program on Elm Tree Lawn, many former students and mentors presented personal stories about how participating in SCA changed the paths and possibilities for their lives.

Research and Internships: Casey Beamish Harris ’19: Fighting for Environmental Justice, One Press Release at a Time

Politics major Casey Beamish Harris ’19 found the summer internship she was looking for on a visit to Scripps’ Career Planning & Resources. On a map of students’ past positions posted in the office, she noticed the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), a nonprofit that seeks to protect the environment and promote human rights through legal channels.

Forbes Ranks Âé¶¹Çø in America’s Top Colleges: Scripps Climbs in Lists for Top 25 Liberal Arts and Western Colleges and Top 50 in the U.S.

Âé¶¹Çø has climbed 24 spots to #16 in Forbes’ Top 25 Liberal Arts Colleges ranking for 2017, up from #40 in 2016. In addition, Scripps moves to #8 from last year’s #14 spot on the national publication’s Top 25 Western Colleges list. The College has also placed #43 in Forbes’ ranking of the country’s Top 50 Colleges.

Âé¶¹Çø is featured in The Princeton Review’s 2018 edition of “The Best 382 Colleges.” The annual “Best Colleges” guide offers two-page profiles on each school featured and, rather than rank the colleges academically, presents the top-20 colleges in 62 categories ranging from academics and financial aid to quality of life, career services, classroom experience, and more.

Âé¶¹Çø professor Ken Gonzales-Day’s work is being lauded among the “not to miss” exhibits by Los Angeles area media as anticipation builds for the Getty-led PST: LA/LA initiative which will feature Latin American and Latino art throughout the Los Angeles area and launches on September 15, 2017.
