Associate Professor of Psychology, Neuroscience, Data Science and听Preaching and Neuroscience project co-director Michael Spezio recently spoke about the project鈥檚 work examining how brains respond to powerful sermons. The project is a joint collaboration between the Catholic Theological Union and the University of Chicago.

Project director Ed Foley鈥檚 theory of compelling preaching is being tested through scientific inquiry in an effort to refine and perhaps even change the view of what is compelling preaching, Spezio .

“This project explores the real-time impact of Roman Catholic preaching on local congregations by creating a robust database of empirical data through neuroscientific and psychological methods. This knowledge will guide preachers toward more impactful delivery while helping educators who train future preachers with reliable, evidence-based resources,” the project website states.
