What was read

During our ceremony my two awesome sisters, Heather and Tamara, were nice enough
to do some “readings” that me and Shan had picked out. Normally a reading is something religious or sappy but we wanted none of that. We came up with two that were a bit lighter and more fun. We ended up picking lyrics from two songs, and I thought I’d post them here so you can see where we got them from. YouTube didn’t have great copies of either but here they are anyway!

I picked out a song from the classic wedding comedy The Wedding Singer. This was read by Heather (who insisted she could not read anything sappy) and she did a great job.
The actual song starts at 0:40 in this video.

Shan’s always been a huge Lisa Loeb fan and chose a portion of the song Wishing Heart. Tamara did a great job of reading it!

Oops. And also dammit!

So, waaaay back when Josh and I got engaged and started planning the wedding, one of the first things I decided I wanted was a visual explanation of how we actually met and got together. Because, see, the short answer is: through mutual friends. And the long answer… is more complicated (see below). I immediately turned to Kimli, who is not only one of my best friends (and bridesmaid!) but also the best flow chart maker around. My intention was to pull this out as one of the (turns out, many) surprises at the wedding so that everyone in attendance would actually understand just how complicated and weird all our connections to each other are. Because really, you try explaining all of this to people, especially people who don’t know everyone already. It’s not easy, I’m telling you.

So, of course I’ve been super excited about this idea for months and Kimli did an amazing job on building the thing for me. I couldn’t wait to include this in my speech to all our guests at the reception! Except… I totally forgot. I’m so mad! It was going to be so awesome! But with everything else going on, this totally fell out of my head. So infuriating! So, instead, I will show it off here (and also on our About page).

Thank you soooooooo much to Kimli for putting this together for me, it’s absolutely everything I wanted and I’m so sorry it didn’t make it into my speech as planned (I guess I should have written everything I wanted to say down after all. Oi.).

it’s complicated (click to embiggen!)

Reception Slideshow

Hi All!

Words can’t describe how thrilled we were by how the wedding turned out. Our family, wedding party, and friends made it absolutely perfect. We can’t possibly thank you all enough!

Just wanted to share the slideshow that was shown at the reception, several people mentioned they wanted to see it again! Check it out, we were cute once (obviously inherited right?). Our favourite part has to be the surprise at the end of the slideshow, it’s a certain little video clip we forgot we even had until recently. Enjoy and hopefully see you all again soon. We will be sure to share photos from the wedding day and other goodies once we have them :)

Welcome!

Welcome to our wedding site! Here you should find all the details of our exciting event, found via the links on the green bar above. If you have any questions of course just let us know. Overall we are planning a very simple and laid-back casual event, but we will try to put details here that will help you plan a fun trip.

When: That’s easy – Saturday April 21, 2012. Some guests are coming out just for the weekend, but many are staying for a few extra days or a week to relax, enjoy the area, and hang out with us!

Accommodations: Black Rock Resort is a brand new and absolutely gorgeous resort built right on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It is surrounded by rainforest, and overhangs rocky Pacific shoreline and crashing waves. The place is a work of art and we love the contrast of luxury accommodations in a rugged natural setting.

To make the weekend simple, the wedding, reception, accomodations, etc. are all in this one location. We are happy to be getting a great event rate there, so you can enjoy the luxury at an affordable price. Some guests are planning to stay at Black Rock Resort, others have found great sounding accommodations nearby. We have heard that Black Rock is starting to fill up and run out of certain room types; so book there right away or check the bottom of our accommodations page for more great options.

The EventYou can expect a short simple Ceremony on Saturday afternoon. Black Rock Resort has an amazing deck overhanging the ocean, and a gorgeous wine room with great ocean views as well. We will be in one of those spots for the short ceremony. Dress will be semi-formal so no need for fancy dresses or suits. Following that will be a very short break where you can relax in your room, explore the resort, etc. Reception dinner will be prepared by the talented on-site chefs and will be a buffet style served in the main ballroom. We are planning some more fun activities for the rest of the weekend, or you can easily fill your time on-site (hikingspa!) or with the endless nearby attractions.

LocationThe resort is in Ucluelet BC, less than an hour south of the popular surf/beach destination of Tofino. Ucluelet is primarily a quiet fishing town but has plenty of good places to eat, stay, and explore. There are many ways to get to the area, see the Getting There page for that.

Activities: Black Rock Resort is right on the Wild Pacific Trail, a beautiful and easy hiking trail and main Ucluelet attraction. We feel everyone should make the 45 minute drive north to Tofino as well- the town is beautiful and you could spend days just visiting all the roadside attractions on the way. The huge beaches, stunning rainforest walks, and amazing restaurants are just the beginning. See our attractions page.

We can’t wait to see everyone in April, and hope you are as excited as we are to spend some time on Canada’s beautiful Pacific coast.
